Port Wine Caves

Graham’s Caves

The company Graham’s was founded in 1820 by brothers William and John Graham, after being sold in 1970, the Symington family. Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e do Porto, I.P

This is a building that was built in neoclassical style in 1843, to settle here Banco Comercial do Porto, but in 1933 was acquired by the Institute of Douro and Port Wines. Taylor’s Caves

Founded in 1692, by Job Bearsley, English merchant in the business still belongs to the same family. These caves offer a terrace with a panoramic view of the port. Caves Real Companhia Velha

Founded in 1756, the General Company of Agriculture of the Upper Douro Vineyards mission is the sustainability of crops of vineyards and conservation of its production, maintaining its natural purity. In its cellars are available for organizing events, with the realization of Honor Ports, product presentations, lunches for groups, dinners in the Events Room, activities for companies and private visits. Caves Ferreira

Erected by a family of winemakers from the Douro, in the year 1751, the company maintained its tradition, along with an important role in the history of the Port. A legendary woman named Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, with a respectable personality, become a myth a symbol of strength during times of adversity over the Douro, in the nineteenth century. Caves Croft

Its first activities date back to 1588. As early as 1736, with the entry of John Croft, a member of a distinguished family of Yorkshire wine merchants, its name changed to the current one. At present, it is a descendant of property of two old families of Port wine sector – the Yeatman and Fladgate. Their distinction and quality of wines is granted by the Fifth Roêda, one of the best Douro. Caves Ramos Pinto

Founded in 1880 by Adriano Ramos Pinto, which was implemented in the early twentieth century, the Brazilian market and eventually became responsible for wine exported to South America. Caves Offley

Founded by William Offley in 1737, the company quickly gained international renown, under the direction of Joseph James Forrester, striking character in the history of Port wine, called by the king of Portugal, as Baron. Therefore, as a businessman, winemaker and respected wine taster, the Baron of Forrester, was a person distinguished in the history of Port wine. The caves are open from March to October, every day from 10h00 to 12h30 and from 14h00 to 18h00.

Caves J. W. Burmester

Their wine arises from the knowledge and traditions that come from a time when the Douro Region was still not demarcated. In the year 1750 it founded the J. W. Burmester, thus beginning a work in producing wines of excellence, which currently still remain. These are open from April to October from 10h00 to 19h00 and from November to March require marking.

Caves Rozés, S.A.

In the year 1855, the wine merchant, Ostende Rozes Rozes decides to found the House, aimed at the marketing of port wine in Bordeaux, France. The quality of wine led to his son Edmond Rozès creates the Rozès brand, thus creating your own wine and settled in Vila Nova de Gaia. Since 1999, this company belongs to Group Vranken-Pommery Monopole. This entity was the first exporter group of Port wine in the Douro Demarcated Region, so Rozès one has solidified many in Portufal markets and foreign, presented their wines with mastery and complete control of the phases of wine production, from planting of vines, aging and bottling of wines in the Douro. Caves Cockburn’s

Founded in 1815 by Robert Cockburn, its caves are considered the most beautiful cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia, one of the historic sites of Porto as a must visit. In them are aged the best lots of Port Cockburn’s wine in coats and oak vats, some as over a hundred years old. The cave stands out for its flooring white and black basalt, something typical Portuguese and displays the “cock and the crown.” Robert Cockburn was a Scottish soldier who fought on behalf of Portugal during the Peninsular War. Currently, this company belongs to the secular Symington family, wine producers in the port for more than 125 years. The visit to the cellars are subject to prior appointment, but in the months between June and October open Monday to Saturday from 10h30 to 19h00, with his last visit to 18h00.

Caves Churchill’s

Founded in 1981 by John Graham and his brothers Anthony and William, this was the first wine producing company of Porto and settled in the last half century. Caves Quinta do Noval

Caves C.N. Kopke

The oldest wine company in Porto, it was founded in 1638 by Cristiano Kopke and his son, Nicholas Kopke, who had come as consul of the Hanseatic League, for Portugal. In 2006, this company four centuries of existence was acquired by Sogevinus group, which maintained the quality objectives and guided this market over the years. The caves are open from May to October from 10h00 to 19h00 and from November April from 10.00 to 18.00.
